In our series Face Your Music, we portray record collectors with their favourite music—and cover art. This time: Arthur who runs the Instagram profile Vinyl Vibess (@vinyl.vibess). He always provides good vibes through music, using his home set-up of a Rega Planar 3 record player, Dali Epicon 2 speakers, NAD M33 amplifier, and Ophon Coverfront record cabinet.
What do you like about the music of Chris Stapleton?
I've been following Chris Stapleton since he still was a member of the bluegrass band The Steeldrivers. The music and songwriting gets to you once you start hearing him sing! Stapleton has one of the most distinctive singing voices in the world. And he can do what he wants with that. Add his own written songs, a guitar in the the blender and his wife Morgane as a backing vocal and you're hooked!
Once I started showing his albums on my Instagram account @vinyl.vibess, where I give my followers an insight into my record collection, my followers from the USA and Canada grew instantly. So I wanted to give him the spotlight in this article, so that others can be inspired and really listen to his lyrics and voice.
Many people think he is merely a country singer, but that is not the case. He performed with a lot of artists, such as Justin Timberlake, Pink, Metallica and Ed Sheeran. The fact that he won five Grammy's says it all.
Can you tell us something about the cover art of From A Room Volume 1 by Rachel Urquhart?
I don't know much about the designer. However, what attracts me to the cover art is the simplicity. And to be fair, that is what suits Chris Stapleton. Give him a guitar and he will do the rest. That's what I like so much about this album. It is literally "from a room." No fuss, just songs that touch you. Examples are "Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning " and "I Was Wrong."
Do you remember when and where you bought this record?
For me, there is only one record store, and that store is Sounds in Delft, where I bought this one when it released in 2017. They see me as a regular nowadays 😉 It's like being in a candy shop. Got a request or a hard album that you can't get your hands on? They go the extra mile and deliver!
